Activity 11(Cover Letter)
It is human being’s experience and feeling that give an abstract space the value and meaning that make it a place. Home, a special place, is especially involves one’s feeling for another in this place.
Activity 1
I am kinda looking forward to the crazy busy week ahead. Next Friday, I will have my first road test and I am excited about getting my driving license. When I was young, I loved to watch my dad and mom driving. Everyday, my mom drove me to school, and I enjoyed being fast on road a lot. Finally, the dream of driving by myself is going to coming true. I am so happy that someday I can drive my parents to travel instead of they drove for me. I am so happy that I am going to drive my friends hanging out. I believe I will be a good driver.
Activity 2
‘Hometown is an intimate place. It may be plain, lacking in architectural distinction and historical glamor, yet we resent an out sider’s criticism of it.’ This is written Tuan in the ‘Intimate Experiences of Place’. I cannot agree more with him. I get the same feeling for my hometown and my high school as well. When I was at high school. My classmates and I may sometimes complain about our high school. But whenever we talked about our high school with other outsiders. We carried high school pride and would protect the reputation for our school whenever others say something bad about our school. I believe that is what is so-called intimate bond.
Activity 3
Activity 4
“Place” represents human relationships. Without human bonds, place is no longer a place because it will lose its value and meaning. Human put emotion and feelings into people in one place such that people have a relation with that place. That is how home comes to be special for one because the relationship with the people at home is special. Place is build on relationships. Without human and human interactions, place is just a space.
Activity 5
As one’s experience at one place grows, one’s relationship with one place gets closer. Experience brings intimacy and emotion. Experience grants a space value and meaning, which shift a place into a place. Poor or rich, warm or cold, these outside factors all do not matter. Only feelings inside a human matter when bonding to a place.
Activity 6
When I was writing about place, I became very nostalgia. A series of flashbacks went through my mind. I immediately sent out a message to my closest friends in high school and told her I would fly to her place over fall break. Though we went to high school at our hometown, now we are both in America. We still frequently text each other and video chat. Our relationship does not end because we leave the place. However, our experience and memory extends as we go to different places. As years goes by, I believe more and more places will take our friendship.
Activity 10 (Revising activity4)
Place is a carrier for human relationships. Place is just an abstract space without human interactions. As people have intimate experience in one space, they implant meaning and value into this space and shift it to a place. People then will create a special bond with this place because people have a relationship with one another at this place. Their feeling and emotion for other human beings generate their affection for a particular place. Space itself does not have meaning, it is human being’s activity and experience grants a space life and value.
